The ostracods described comprise more than thirty Middle to Late Maastrichtian deep-sea species of DSDP/ODP Sites 327, 356, 525, 527, 528, 529 and 698 in the South Atlantic. Most species are represented by few individuals only, a circumstance which have restricted the present taxonomic analysis. The majority of the species was therefore placed in open nomenclature. One species is formally described as new: Bythocypris falklandensis sp. nov. Although many of the genera recorded, e. g.. Cytherella, Bythocypris, Krithe, Argilloecia, Cytheropteron, Aversovalva, Xestoleberis, Eucytherura, Profundobythere. Mayburya and Dutoitella are almost of world-wide distribution in the deep seas of the Campanian-Oligocene, the present study indicates the presence of a latitudinal trend in the generic composition of Maastrichtian ostracod assemblages among the sites studied. Many of the present genera are common also in the Recent and obviously derive from ancestors older than the Maastrichtian.
