  • A modified planktonic foraminiferal biozonation for the late Early to Late Maastrichtian is proposed for those areas in low paleolatitudes, in which the Late Maastrichtian index fossil Abathomphalus mayaroensis is absent or extremely rare. A correlation of the Maastrichtian planktonic foraminiferal and calcareous nannoplankton zonation is presented. Evidence for the existence of the basal Paleocene Parvularugoglobigerina eugubina zone in central Egypt is given.
