  • Resumen
    • The role played by the Russian Orthodox Church and Patriarch Kirill in the Russian-Ukrainian crisis has been variously assessed by experts, focusing on his being the main ideologist of Putin’s ‘Russian world,’ believing that the president is under the influence of the Patriarch. The mistake of such assessments lies in the fact that they are based not on an analysis of real church-state relations but on a mythology that the Moscow Patriarchate itself has successfully created and propagated by exaggerating his own role and influence in contemporary Russia. The paper addresses this issue in a historical perspective on the background of post-Cold war ChurchState relations in Russia, examining in particular the charges of heresy risen against the patriarch.
