  • The article aims to analyse Greek Orthodox philosopher and theologian Christos Yannaras’ assessment of the state of contemporary Orthodoxy through his evaluation of the 2016 Synod of Crete. The often-provocative stances of the Greek theologian, always expressed with great lucidity, bring out a complex and articulate reflection on the synodal nature of the church, on the crisis of contemporary Orthodoxy and on the role of the Ecumenical Patriarchate, on its task in relation to Orthodoxy in general, discussing the various criticisms addressed to it in the Greek and generically Orthodox sphere
