The Orthodox Church is increasingly aware of her social mission. In the past, Eastern Christianity seemed to favor an apophatic attitude towards the world, having less interest in its social commitment. But the faith of the church, which is eucharistic and eschatological at the same time, invites all Christians to commit themselves to the struggle against the evil that exists in various forms in the world. It is through a socially oriented ethos that the Orthodox can rediscover the responsibility they have towards politics, the state, and all human persons, criticizing the despotism of secular power. If the Christian Gospel is founded on the person of Christ, the purpose of faith is to serve each human person, who is the ‘image’ of God. The universality of humankind prevails over all particular and national interests. This article examines the provisions of the Holy and Great Council of the Orthodox Church of 2016 along with a recent important social document, entitled For the life of the world, prepared by theologians of the Ecumenical Patriarchate of Constantinople
