    El ictus se considera la primera causa médica de discapacidad en el mundo y la segunda causa de muerte en el mundo occidental. A su vez, representa la segunda causa de demencia. A nivel mundial, se estima que alrededor de 15 millones de personas sufren ictus cada año, siendo su causa de mortalidad el 30% de los casos en el primer año. En Europa existen 650.000 defunciones al año por esta causa. En España se estima que suelen ser unos 40.000. Se ha estudiado que cada 6 minutos se produce un ictus en nuestro país. Unos 120.000 nuevos casos al año de ictus en España. Es importante que la población este informada sobre los signos y síntomas de alarma que pueden hacer sospechar sobre un ictus. Con esta información los procesos de actuación se acortan y la esperanza de vida aumenta tras sufrir un ictus. Es necesario protocolarizar en cada comunidad autónoma la actuación ante la activación del Código Ictus, el personal sanitario debe ser entrenado y formado para actuar con la mayor rapidez. Los tiempos de actuación son cruciales para el paciente. Actuar de manera ordenada y multidisciplinar ante la activación del código extrahospitalario como, intrahospitalario consigue el éxito en el paciente.

    Stroke is considered the first medical cause of disability in the world and the second cause of death in the western world. In turn, it represents the second cause of dementia. Globally, it is estimated that around 15 million people suffer from stroke each year, with 30% of cases being the cause of mortality in the first year. In Europe there are 650,000 deaths per year for this cause. In Spain it is estimated that there are usually about 40,000. It has been studied that every 6 minutes a stroke occurs in our country. About 120,000 new cases a year of stroke in Spain. It is important that the population is informed about the signs and symptoms of alarm that can make one suspect a stroke. With this information, the action processes are shortened and life expectancy increases after suffering a stroke. It is necessary to protocolize in each autonomous community the action before the activation of the Ictus Code, the health personnel must be trained and trained to act as quickly as possible. Acting times are crucial for the patient. Acting in an orderly and multidisciplinary way before the activation of the out-of-hospital code as, in-hospital, it achieves success in the patient.
