The need to be technologically literate is becoming increasingly evident, so mastering the new digital competencies, which provide skills, abilities, knowledge, and attitudes to perform effectively in a digital environment, is imperative. Teachers are required to acquire these competencies since, in order to make critical, creative, and safe use of ICTs in their classrooms, it is essential not only to prepare students for the intendedsubject but also for their future jobs and social inclusion. Previous research showed the scarcity of informationon the subject for the Latin American context, so this theoretical review aims to be a reference framework ofdigital competencies for teachers in Latin America as they could contribute to the development of improvements in regional educational policies tailored to local needs and contexts. The scope of the research is limitedto the analysis of the six dimensions (social, informational, axiological, knowledge construction, professionaldevelopment, and use of technology) and their 20 competencies for a better understanding of these. The levelsof each competency and how they are measured will be presented in a second phase due to its length.
