Mr. Pedro Balanzategui Altuna was a soldier from Guipúzcoa who, by chance, settled inLeón, where he lived, got married, and governed the municipality on two occasions (1857-1858)and (1867-1868). He possibly fathered a son in León, Rafael, who would be born in Lesaka(Navarre). He was mayor of León and a fanatical defender of the Veterinary School againstthose who attempted to transfer it to Valladolid. He left it all to defend his Carlist ideals and it cost him his estate and life.He was executed by firing squad on the dawn of the 6 August 1869.We do not agree with his political views, but we have always agreed with those whohave respected and honoured those who knew how to die with dignity, honour and valour.
