    Las representaciones de la inmolación del toro por Mitra parecen escenificar la generación de una vida nueva: cuando el toro cae sin vida, la sangre que brota de su cuello irriga y nutre los trigos y de su cola surge un haz de espigas. En este artículo analizaremos la conexión entre la tauroctonía mitraica y ciertos pasajes del De antro nympharum de Porfirio que configuran la exégesis de un Mitra, demiurgo y señor de la generación, que se proyecta en el simbolismo agrícola de los grabados e ilustraciones renacentistas.

    The representations of the bull’s immolation by Mithras seem to stage the generation of a new life: when the bull falls lifeless, the blood that gushes from its neck irrigates and nourishes the wheats and from its tail a bundle of spikes arises. In this paper we will analyze the connection between Mithraic tauroctony and certain passages of Porphyry's De antro nympharum that configure the exegesis of a Mithras, demiurge and lord of the generation, which is projected in the agricultural symbolism of Renaissance engravings and illustrations.
