    Egídio Romano é o principal defensor do teocracismo papal medieval, segundo o qual o poder espiritual é superior ao temporal. Para defender essa tese, Egídio utiliza diversos argumentos extraídos de Aristóteles, Dionísio, Tomás de Aquino e, principalmente, Santo Agostinho. Para o presente artigo, pretendemos analisartão somente os argumentos egidianos inspirados em ideias de Agostinho, intencionando averiguar se, considerando uma interpretação mais aprofundada do pensamento do Hiponense, a compreensão de Egídio dos textos agostinianos no De ecclesiastica potestate se sustentam ou se foram utilizados de forma incorreta.

    Egidio Romano is the main defender of the medieval papal teocracismo, whereby the spiritual power is above the temporal. To defend this thesis, Giles uses many arguments drawn from Aristotle, Dionysius, Thomas Aquinas, and especially St. Augustine. For this article, we examine solely the egidianos arguments inspired by ideas of Augustine, intending to ascertain whether, considering a more thorough interpretation of the thought of hiponense, understanding Egidio Augustinian texts in De ecclesiastica potestate sustain themselves or were used incorrectly.
