Resumen de John Rawls, consenso sobreposto e o pluralismo razoável: críticas de Chantal Mouffe

For Mouffe, Rawls finds himself in a circular form of argument, because at the same time that political liberalism claims to provide a consensus among reasonable plural people, such people have to accept its principles. However, the author of The Return to the Political agrees with Rawls when he maintains that in a modern democracy the principles of justice cannot be derived from philosophical, religious and moral conceptions. On the other hand, she disagrees with the Rawlsian theory, because the defense of this thesis is inadequate. In Rawls there is an attempt to make the political disappear as a conflict of the domain of the conquest of power. Thus, thinking the politician in terms of moral language, as Rawlsian theory does, necessarily, leads to neglecting the role of conflict, power and interests. However, justice as equity, no moment, inhibits differences. Using reflective equilibrium, Rawls elaborates, in his theory, a mutual adjustment, through an argumentative reasonable process of the most diverse conceptions of good.

Para Mouffe, Rawls encontra-se em uma forma circular de argumentação, porque ao mesmo tempo em que o liberalismo político afirma fornecer um consenso entre pessoas plurais razoáveis, tais pessoas têm que aceitar os seus princípios. No entanto, a autora de The Return to the Political concorda com Rawls quando ele sustenta que em uma democracia moderna os princípios de justiça não podem ser derivados de concepções filosóficas, religiosas e morais. Por outro lado, ela discorda da teoria rawlsiana, porque a defesa dessa tese é inadequada. Em Rawls há uma tentativa de fazer desaparecer o político como conflito do domínio da conquista do poder. Assim, pensar o político em termos de linguagem moral, como faz a teoria rawlsiana, necessariamente, leva a negligenciar o papel do conflito, do poder e dos interesses. No entanto, a justiça como equidade, em nenhum momento, inibe as diferenças. Com a utilização do equilíbrio reflexivo, Rawls elabora, em sua teoria um ajuste mútuo, por meio de um processo argumentativo razoável das mais diversas concepções de bem.
