Resumen de Inducción pesimist: compromisos metafísicos y metodológicos

En este trabajo, exploramos un aspecto problemático del principal argumento a favor del antirrealismo científico, conocido como la Inducción Pesimista (IP). Nuestro análisis se centra en la observación de que quien pretenda utilizar la IP como un argumento efectivo debería tener, en primer lugar, buenas razones para confiar en la inducción como forma de razonamiento ampliativo. Ello supone tomar posición respecto del llamado problema de la inducción y de las posibles estrategias para solucionarlo. Sostenemos que las posibles estrategias del defensor de la IP frente al problema de la inducción conducen a compromisos más fuertes que aquellos que pretende evitar con su argumento. Si bien esto no constituye una refutación de la IP ni de las posibles formas de antirrealismo que sustenta, afirmamos que pone al antirrealista en una aparente inconsistencia pragmática respecto de la adopción de compromisos metafísicos y metodológicos que dificultan la defensa general de su posición.

In this paper, we explore a problematic aspect of the main argument in favor of scientific antirealism, the Pessimistic Induction (PI). Our analysis focuses on the observation that whoever wants to use PI as an effective argument should have good reasons to trust induction as a form of ampliative reasoning in the first place. This involves taking a position regarding the so-called induction problem and the possible strategies to solve it. We maintain that the possible strategies of the PI defender in the face of the problem of induction lead to stronger commitments than those he tries to avoid with his argument. Although this does not constitute a refutation of the PI nor of the possible forms of antirealism that it supports, we affirm that it puts the antirealist in a pragmatic inconsistency regarding the adoption of metaphysical commitments that hinders the general defense of her position.
