The changes that took place in the monetary system of Castile since 1268 caused continuous problems for its inhabitants when it came to evaluate the amounts that appeared in their legal documents. In order to solve this problem, a brief text appeared, preserved as an annex to the Fuero Real published in 1781, and although it contained some flaws, it served as a reference for a series of treatises that complemented it with other material. At the same time, it was rewritten with a more elaborate structure until the definitive text contained in the fuero of Huete was reached. In the following pages, we have studied its contents, verified its equivalence with the monetary history known up to now, and we offer a stemma diagram which reflects the markers of its formative development.
