    This paper will describe the genesis and organs of Japanese colonial archaeology and museums in colonial Korea during the first half of the XXth century, as well as the main fields that were studied. The colonial context of archaeology in Korea, a country dominated by a foreign power, determined its practice. We will therefore explain which topics did particularly interest the colonial archaeological research, which was determined above all by Japanese philology and sinology. These two disciplines already “knew” the past that was to be uncovered, like Schliemann at Troy: colonial archaeology in Korea was therefore confined to a confirmatory mission at the sites of Lelang or Kyŏngju, while enhancing the prestige of the Japanese colonizer through its “mission” of conserving the Korean cultural heritage.

    Cet article décrira la genèse et les organes de l’archéologie et des musées coloniaux japonais en Corée coloniale durant la première moitié du XXème siècle, ainsi que les principaux terrains étudiés. Le contexte colonial de l’archéologie de Corée, pays dominé par une puissance étrangère, en détermina sa pratique. Il s’agira dès lors de montrer quelles thématiques intéressèrent particulièrement la recherche archéologique coloniale, qui était déterminée en amont par la philologie et la sinologie japonaises. Celles-ci “connaissaient” déjà le passé qui allait être mis à jour, tel Schliemann à Troie: l’archéologie coloniale de Corée était dès lors cantonnée à une mission de confirmation aux sites de Lelang ou Kyŏngju, tout en réhaussant le prestige du colonisateur de par sa “mission” de conservation du patrimoine coréen.
