Resumen de L’exposition des vestiges antiques en Algérie: De l’expropriation à la (ré)appropriation d’un patrimoine archéologique par la société locale. Le cas du Musée Public National de Cherchell (MPNC)

In Algeria, ancient remains are far from being considered by the whole population as heritage and museums seem to be seen more as storage rooms than cultural institutions. In order to safeguard their collections, museums must redouble their efforts to raise awareness and make people understand that they are the guardians of an artistic, historical and cultural heritage, shared by all of Algeria. This article proposes to study the case of the MPNC, which hassucceeded in differentiating itself thanksto anAlgerian-German project started in 2009. From its history and that of its collections, we will understand that it was an important instrument in the colonial cultural policy. But thanks to its project of complete reorganisation of the museum and its commitment to the local population, it has really become part of a dynamic of heritagization.

En Algérie, les vestiges antiques sont loin d’être considérés par toute la population comme étant du patrimoine et les musées semblent davantage être vus comme des entrepôts, que des institutions culturelles. Afin de sauvegarder leurs collections, les musées doivent redoubler d’efforts pour sensibiliser les populations et leur faire comprendre qu’ils sont les gardiens d’un héritage artistique, historique et culturel commun à toute l’Algérie. Cet article propose d’étudier le cas du MPNC, qui a réussi à se démarquer grâce à un projet algéro-allemand commencé en 2009. À partir de son histoire et de celle de ses collections, nous comprendrons qu’il a été un outil important dans la politique culturelle coloniale. Mais, grâce à son projet de réorganisation complète du musée et à son engagement auprès de la population locale, il s’est réellement inséré dans une dynamique de patrimonialisation.
