Resumen de Sobre unha representación cristolóxica pouco coñecida na igrexa de San Pedro da Mezquita

Preséntase unha representación cristolóxica conservada nun lugar pouco accesible no interior da igrexa parroquial de San Pedro da Mezquita (A Merca, Ourense) que, malia a súa modesta execución, ofrece un gran simbolismo que atangue mesmo aos principios dogmáticos da tradición cristiá.
Analízase a imaxe que se identifica cun pelicano e os seus poliños, ao tempo que se afonda no seu significado co apoio dunha ampla tradición iconográfica iniciada no mundo paleocristián e que terá na Idade Media un auxe significativo por mor da exaltación do culto ao Corpo e ao Sangue de Cristo que, iniciado no século XII, presenta unha gran puxanza na centuria seguinte. Proséguese co intento de contextualizar a representación procurando afondar no significado da mensaxe que se pretende transmitir coa imaxe da igrexa da Mezquita e tamén –aínda que sempre a xeito de etérea hipótese- sobre a responsabilidade da súa autoría.
Proponse unha datación arredor do último terzo do século XIII.
Conclúese o estudo cunha achega de paralelos que, lonxe de pretender ofrecer unha visión exhaustiva do panorama, preséntase como unha mostra reducida, pero significativa, da presenza da representación do Pelicano Eucarístico na Baixa Idade Media.

A Christology representation from a not-very-accessible place located inside the parish church of San Pedro de A Mezquita (A Merca, Ourense, Galicia) is presented. Despite its modest execution, it offers great symbolism related to even dogmatic principles of Christian tradition.
The image, identified as a pelican with its young, is analysed while delving into its meaning with the help of a wide iconographic tradition that began in the early Christian world and experienced significant growth during the Middle Ages due to the exaltation of the worship of the Body and Blood of Christ, which began in the 12th century and gained significant momentum in the following century. The article continues by attempting to contextualise the representation to explore the message that the San Pedro de A Mezquita image is trying to communicate, and also with an ethereal hypothesis about its authorship. A dating of around the last third of the 13th century is proposed.
The study concludes by providing parallel examples that, while not attempting to provide an exhaustive view of the topic, serve as a small, but significant, sample of the presence of the representation of the Eucharistic Pelican in the late Middle Ages.
