  • Resumen
    • This paper will address the socio-economic changes in the agrarian sector in the border the period of integration into the European Union. regions of north-eastern Slovenia and the adjacent countries of Austria and Hungary duringEmphasis will be put on the analysis of economic indicators in the agrarian sector in the border Slovenian regions of Podravje and Prekmurje; the Austrian regions of Western and Southern Styria, Eastern Styria and Southern Burgenland; and the two Hungarian regions of Vas and Zala. In respect of the selected economic indicators, the discussed region is defined as a less developed region of its home country which, until recently, was peripheral in nature and predominantly agrarian in orientation.Economic, social and spatial development of rural areas in the discussed border regions is still closely associated with the development of agricultural activity. Development of agriculture is vitally affected by the common European agricultural policy which prevents global competitiveness in agriculture and restricts the development of rural areas. The keys to the development of the rural border areas are active management of the multifunctional role of the agrarian areas and the establishment of convergent socio-economic integration processes in the context of regional border spatial units.
