  • Resumen
    • During the last decade cultural heritage changed its status and became part of a wide movement of sustainable development. The purpose of this research is to examine the status of vernacular1 built heritages in rural area in Israel, the attitude of the rural population to its heritage and the contribution of the vernacular heritage to economic development - mainly to heritage tourism. This research is focused on the Kibbutz settlement (plural Kibbutzim - Jewish settlements based on full cooperation and equality in producing, marketing and consuming) that were founded during the years 1910-1948 in Palestine. In these cooperative settlements the cultural heritage assets and sites are mostly vernacular and have a specific uniqueness. The Kibbutz members are not always aware of the economic potential for the Kibbutz development as a tourist attraction.
