    This work aims to present and analyze the construction of popular identity through oral narrative and literature in a region of the state of Ceará. We chose the Cariri region, as it is a favorable space for storytelling. Myths and tales are ancient and ever-present factors in the lives of human beings. For this research we used the qualitative method. A theoretical review was initially carried out and later we collected the oral narratives of four residents of Cariri. We intended to observe, from the perspective of narratives and literature, how stories are seen and analyzed. We consider, at the end of this work, that the tales are part of the local culture and effectively collaborate for the construction of the region's identity, as well as directly influencing people's lives.

    O estudo tem por objetivo apresentar e analisar a construção da identidade popular por meio da narrativa oral de contos no Cariri cearense. Os mitos e contações são fatores antigos e sempre presentes na vida dos seres humanos. Para tal pesquisa, utilizou-se o método qualitativo. Inicialmente, foi feito um debate teórico, e foram colhidas, posteriormente, as narrativas orais de quatro moradores do Cariri. A intenção foi observar, sob o olhar das narrativas e da literatura, como as contações são vistas. No final deste trabalho, considera-se que os contos fazem parte da cultura local e colaboram efetivamente para a construção da identidade da região, bem como influenciam diretamente na vida das pessoas.
