Difusión del protestantismo en la ciudad de Rosario (1874-1890): Las misioneras metodistas del Colegio Norteamericano

    En este estudio continuamos analizando la difusión del metodismo en la ciudad de Rosario en el período (1874-1890), atendiendo al accionar de las misioneras norteamericanas y los inicios del Colegio Americano. La investigación examina las influencias teológicas y pedagógicas recibidas; el desarrollo de las escuelas y la percepción que tuvieron de las costumbres y tradiciones de la ciudad en los inicios de la “modernización”. Asimismo, intentamos reconstruir la visión en cuanto a la educación de la mujer en el marco del proyecto de reforma que la Women’s Foreign Missionary Society soñaba para el Río de la Plata. La relevancia del examen radica en que este primer esfuerzo misionero moldeó el perfil de la misión educativa metodista en Montevideo, Callao, Lima y Buenos Aires en los años siguientes.

    In this study we continue analyzing the diffusion of Methodism in the city of Rosario in the period (1874-1890), paying attention to the actions of the North American missionaries and the beginnings of the American School. The research examines the theological and pedagogical influences received; the development of the schools and the perception they had of the customs and traditions of the city at the beginning of the “modernization”. We also attempt to reconstruct the vision regarding women’s education in the framework of the reform project that the Women’s Foreign Missionary Society dreamed of for the Rio de la Plata. The relevance of this study lies in the fact that this first missionary effort shaped the profile of the Methodist educational mission in Montevideo, Callao, Lima and Buenos Aires in the following years.
