    En este artículo analizaré parte de la obra del Dr. Henry K. Carroll, un actor relevante del escenario político y religioso norteamericano en relación con América Latina y el Caribe entre fines del siglo XIX y comienzos del XX. En este trabajo, me detendré en el análisis de Around and Across South America (1905), resultado de una gira misionera y donde el autor nos permite conocer la representación que el personal de dichas sociedades tenía de América Latina y el Caribe (las Indias Occidentales), de sus principales problemas y de las posibles soluciones. También es relevante el análisis de la moralidad de las naciones visitadas, la influencia del catolicismo, el aporte de la experiencia espiritual protestante, los criterios de la auténtica religión y la importancia otorgada a la educación y al valor de la temperancia en la estrategia misionera. El otro texto estudiado es Missionary Growth (1907) donde aparecen algunas reflexiones relevantes acerca de la relación de la misión con el reino de Dios que nos ayudan a entender las mentalidades misioneras en un tiempo de franca expansión.

    In this article I will analyze part of the work of Dr. Henry K. Carroll, a relevant actor of the North American political and religious scene in relation to Latin America and the Caribbean between the late 19th and early 20th centuries. In this work, I will focus on the analysis of Around and Across South America (1905), the result of a missionary tour, where the author allows us to know the representation that the personnel of these societies had of Latin America and the Caribbean (the West Indies), their main problems and possible solutions. Also relevant is the analysis of the morality of the nations visited, the influence of Catholicism, the contribution of the Protestant spiritual experience, the criteria of authentic religion and the importance given to education and the value of temperance in the missionary strategy. The other text studied is Missionary Growth (1907), which contains some relevant reflections on the relationship between mission and the kingdom of God that help us to understand missionary mentalities in a time of frank expansion.
