El presente texto recupera el contexto de aparición del Boletín de Historia Social Europea, precursor de Sociedades Precapitalistas. Se considera el escenario académico en el momento del retorno a la democracia, etapa crucial para el arraigo de los estudios de historia europea en nuestro país. Se recupera el rol de algunos actores relevantes del momento y sus posiciones respectivas. Se destaca el aporte del Boletín en este marco argumentando que propició la renovación historiográfica, la apertura hacia el diálogo con las ciencias sociales y el retorno a las problemáticas claves del marxismo.

This text recovers the context of the appearance of the Boletín de Historia Social Europea, the forerunner of Sociedades Precapitalistas. It considers the academic scenario at the time of the return to democracy, a crucial stage for the consolidation of European history studies in our country. The role of some relevant actors of the moment and their respective positions are recovered. The contribution of the Boletín in this framework is highlighted, arguing that it fostered historiographic renewal, openness towards dialogue with the social sciences and a return to the key problems of Marxism.
