    La biblioteca universitaria, de arquitectura usualmente magnánima, es una entidad protagónica en las Instituciones de Educación Superior. Ha sido proveedora de información para la construcción de conocimiento y un espacio solemne para el trabajo y la reflexión. Con la incorporación de las Tecnologías de la Información y de la Comunicación a los servicios y estrategias operativas de la biblioteca académica se devino una profunda transformación. A más de dos décadas de una biblioteca universitaria híbrida, el trabajo remoto de emergencia para mitigar los contagios por COVID-19 evidenció la importancia de la toma de decisiones oportunas en torno a la implementación de catálogos de acceso público en línea, la suscripción a revistas electrónicas, la mejora de la infraestructura tecnológica del establecimiento documental y la oferta de servicios remotos. Mientras la mayoría de los servicios universitarios, incluida la docencia, implementaban rutas emergentes para la continuidad académica y diseñaban planes para la hibridación de la educación superior, la biblioteca universitaria procedió a cerrar sus puertas, salvaguardar la integridad de sus colaboradores y visitantes y a continuar a la distancia. El préstamo de volúmenes físicos se resolvió con el acuerdo de horarios y puntos de recolección específicos, entregas personales o la apertura al tratamiento caso por caso. La biblioteca no sólo cumplió con su función sustantiva durante la pandemia, sino que la atendió con creces y no por su tradición y protagonismo como centro documental ni por la sofisticación de sus sistemas de información y servicios informáticos, sino por el trabajo y compromiso de su gente.

    The University Library, with magnanimous architecture, is an important entity in the Higher Education Institutions. It has been an information provider for the knowledge construction and a solemn space to work and think. With the implementation of Information and Communication Technologies to the services and operative strategies of the academic library a profound transformation did occur. Two decades have passed since the academic library became hybrid, and the emergency remote work to mitigate the spread of COVID-19, made evident the importance of timely made decisions with regards to the implementation of Online Public Access Catalogs, subscription to electronic journals, the improvement of the technologic infrastructure of the establishment and the offerof remote services.While the majority of the university services, including teaching, resorted to emergent routs to face the pandemic and to design general plans of hybrid operation, the academic library, proceeded to lock its doors, look after the integrity and health of their collaborators and visitors and to keep on at distance. Lending physical volumes was solved by setting time and collection places, personal delivery or the aperture to case by case situations. The academic library not only did continue with its substantive function during lockdown, but also kept on with its tradition and protagonist role as a documentary center due to the stability of its information and informatic systems but above all due to its people
