El discurso teológico de Antonio Vieira como mecanismo para objetar el sometimiento indígena en el estado del Marañón y Gran Pará

    Debido a la trascendencia que tuvieron los jesuitas -y especialmente el ignaciano Antonio Vieira- en los pronunciamientos y las disposiciones legislativas que a posteriori se darían en el estado del Marañón y Gran Pará en relación con la esclavitud indígena, el presente artículo ahonda en el tema teniendo en cuenta el aspecto teológico que predominó en los pronunciamientos del iñiguista Antonio Vieira. Dicha característica de su discurso le sirvió para justificar la actividad misionera jesuita, la presencia portuguesa en territorio marginal y el control provisional de los intereses y las actuaciones de los colonos y moradores del estado del Marañón y Gran Pará, los cuales incursionaron de manera amenazante, reduciendo a la esclavitud a las poblaciones indígenas existentes en el medio y bajo Amazonas.

    Due to the importance which the Jesuits had and specially Antonio Vieira in the uprisings and dispositions legislative that a posteriori would occur in the State of the Maranhão and Grão Pará in relation to the indigenous slavery, the present article deepens in the subject considering the theological aspect that predominated in the uprisings enunciated by the Jesuit and that served to him to justify the missionary activity, the Portuguese presence in marginal territory and the provisional control of the interests and performances of the settlers and inhabitants of the State of the Maranhão and Grão Pará, that they entered of threatening way reducing to the slavery to the existing indigenous populations in means and under Amazon.
