Los moradores de Gorgona: protagonistas de un paradigma penitenciario en Colombia, 1959-1975

    El artículo expone las circunstancias sociales y políticas en que fue aprobada la creación de un penal insular, la Isla Prisión de Gorgona, con claros fines políticos, entre ellos, segregar a los criminales supuestamente más peligrosos de la violencia bipartidista. Se presentan los parámetros utilizados en la selección de la mejor isla para ser empleada con fines punitivos en un momento crítico de especial tensión política y social en Colombia. Tras analizar el tipo de delincuente que fue confinado en la isla prisión, teniendo en cuenta varias categorías de análisis, como el crimen cometido, la condena impuesta, y la ocupación de los presos, la investigación demuestra que no todos los reos de Gorgona fueron los tenebrosos asesinos que el gobierno, apoyado fundamentalmente por la prensa oficial, pretendió mostrar al país. Fundamentalmente, el texto apunta a analizar el tipo de delincuente que fue relegado a la isla prisión, y mostrar un caso paradigmático en la historia del sistema penitenciario colombiano.

    The article presents the social and political circumstances in which the creation of the island prison of Gorgona was approved, seeking clear political goals, such as the segregation of the allegedly most dangerous criminals of the political violence.

    The text shows the parameters used in the selection of the most adequate island to be used with punitive purposes, in a special moment of social and political upheaval in Colombia. After analyzing the type of criminal that was confined in the island prison, and taking into consideration several analytical categories, such as the crime committed, the sentence, and the occupation of the convicts at the moment of committing the crime, the investigation shows that not all the inmates of Gorgona were the sinister murderers that the government wanted to show to the country, backed basically by the official media. Essentially, the text aims at analyzing the type of criminal that was relegated to the island prison, and seeks to shed light on a paradigmatic case in the history of the Colombian penitentiary system.
