Many wind and marine turbines employ induction and/or synchronous machines as generators, which are operated usually through a mechanical gearbox to boost their rotational speed and performance for cost and dependability. With the Space Vector Pulse Width Modulation (SVPWM) the Direct Torque Control (DTC) is one of the most popular methods of control for electric machines drive systems. The DTC-SVPWM scheme is presented and compared with the classical DTC. The torque ripple reduction achieved by this method is significant, and a very good torque and flux regulation is achieve in an induction machine.
