The paper describes the application of a new concept of vertical axis wind turbines incorporated in suspension bridges. The new wind turbine makes use of turbulent air streams as well as laminar ones to generate energy, thus improving the overall performance of the wind turbine. Tests has reported power coefficient above the Betz limit thanks to the use of the turbulent air streams. The incorporation of the new wind turbines hanging from the bottom of the deck of the bridge allows power generation without interfering the current use of the bridge. The new wind turbine design can be scaled according to the size of the deck of the bridge with low affection of the power generation that remains rather linear with the size of the turbine. Power peak has been reported as 2.5 kW although it has been designed for standard output power of 1 kW. The wind turbine operates at low air stream regime, from only 2 m/s as starting-up wind speed.
