    Promovido La provincia el 1 de mayo de 1911 y constituido el Cabildo Insular de Gran Canaria el 16 de marzo de 1913, detrás de la gestación de ambos latió la compartida aspiración de emancipar a Gran Canaria de la tutela de Santa Cruz de Tenerife, la entonces capital única del archipiélago. Con sus comunes propósitos, el periódico, como órgano de creación de opinión pública, y la institución, como brazo político, fueron de la mano hasta la consecución, según las monografías publicadas sobre ambos, de la anhelada división provincial a inicios del otoño de 1927. Sin embargo, antes de conseguir tan anhelado objetivo, hubo una coyuntura hasta ahora inadvertida en la que se rompió la entente cordiale, cuando las islas quedaron desconectadas de sus mercados exteriores en la I Guerra Mundial y, al calor del profundo deterioro de la vida insular, emergieron otras necesidades materiales mucho más perentorias que las divisionistas.
