  • Resumen
    • The correlation between economic dynamism and social welfare cannot be universally established. The Balearic Islands, a touchstone in international tourism, proves this. This text analyses some of the main indicators on tourism-related poverty and social inequality in this territory in a post-pandemic context with new uncertainties. Factors related to the development of the tourism industry, like the high cost of housing and job instability, in addition to one of the highest demographic growth rates in all southern Europe, explain the worsening of living conditions for much of the population in recent decades and the constant increase in the number of tourists.
