    En este artículo traducimos y analizamos por primera vez un texto de Orson Welles, originalmente publicado en inglés en la revista Stage en la edición de febrero de 1941. Su título, ‘Orson Welles escribe sobre Orson Welles’, es una muestra del tono irónico del mismo, pues está dedicado casi íntegramente a criticar la industria cinematográfica de Hollywood, sobre todo por lo que se refiere a la figura del productor. La fecha de su publicación, tres meses antes del estreno de Ciudadano Kane (1941), su mirada humorística y su innegable parresía, refuerzan la importancia de este texto para conocer sus ideas en torno al trabajo fílmico y su conexión con Hollywood, pero también su concepción del arte de la dirección, el papel de la producción y otros aspectos fílmicos como la banda sonora y la interpretación actoral. Del presente texto no sólo se desprende una estética, sino también una ética y hasta una filosofía del cine, que resulta indesligable de un modo de vivir.

    In this article I translate and analyze for the first time a text by Orson Welles, originally published in the February 1941 issue of Stage. Its title, ‘Orson Welles writes about Orson Welles’, is an indication of its ironic tone, since it is devoted almost entirely to criticizing the Hollywood film industry, especially regarding the figure of the producer. The date of its publication, three months before the premiere of Citizen Kane(1941), its humorous look and its undeniable parrhesia, reinforce the importance of this text to know his ideas about film and his connection with Hollywood, but also his conception of the art of directing, the role of production and other filmic aspects such as music and acting. This text contains not only an aesthetic, but also an ethic and even a philosophy of cinema, which is inseparable from a way of life.
