    La Real Armada resultó una de las instituciones del siglo XVIII donde anidó más profusamente el pensamiento ilustrado, coincidiendo, además, con uno de los momentos más brillantes de la historia naval de España. Así, con una clara vocación científica y humanista, se crearon diversos cuerpos patentados para asistir a los oficiales de marina y marineros españoles; uno de ellos fue el prestigiosísimo Real Cuerpo de Sanidad de la Armada, donde se formaron y sirvieron los extraordinarios médicos-cirujanos españoles, prácticamente los mejores de la Europa de su tiempo.

    The Royal Spanish Navy was one of the 18th century institutions where the enlightened thought was most widely developed, at the same time it was one of the most brilliant moments in the naval history of Spain. Thus, with a main scientific and humanist vocation, several patented corps were created to assist the Spanish naval officers and sailors, one of them was the prestigious Royal Navy Medical Corps. Therein, the extraordinary Spanish physicians and surgeons were trained and served, who probably were the best in Europe during the period.
