El conflicto desencadenado en las Alpujarras a finales del año 1568 por unos cristianos nuevos inadaptados ante un fe impuesta años atrás, fruto de un dominio abrupto que les impidió contar con un larga aculturación que habían sufrido el resto de los mudéjares peninsulares, desembocó en un penoso éxodo de estas gentes por gran parte de Castilla, afectando incluso a aquellos que no habían participado en la revuelta. De esta manera, muchos lugares del reino, en ellos Talavera, se convertirían en el nuevo hogar de los miles de moriscos granadinos que tuvieron que acatar los dictámenes de la autoridad real, la cual buscaba la eliminación de toda práctica religiosa ajena al cristianismo.

The conflict unleashed in the Alpujarras at the end of 1568 by some new Christian misfits before a faith imposed years ago, the result of an abrupt rule that prevented them from having a long acculturation that the rest of the Peninsular Mudejars had suffered, led to a painful exodus of these people throughout of Castile, affecting even those who had not participated in the revolt. In this way, many places in the kingdom, including Talavera, would become the new home for the thousands of Moors from Granada who had to abide by the dictates of the royal authority, which sought the elimination of all religious practices other than Christianity.
