Resumen de Email, Whatsapp y Zoom en tiempos de la COVID-19

La OMS declaró pandemia a la COVID-19 el once de marzo de 2020, y a partir de ese momento, hasta los más reacios a las nuevas tecnologías tuvieron que prepararse, como pudieran, para poder contactar con los alumnos. Para cuando el décimo segundo Coloquio de Lenguas Extranjeras de UAM-Azcapotzalco tenga lugar, se habrá cumplido ya un particular año de cuarentena, y tres trimestres de dar clase a distancia.
La tecnología ha sido el medio, pero ciertamente no es el fin. Ha resultado una bendición el poder conectarse de esta manera sin poner en riesgo la salud, pero la conexión humana, tan característica al aprender otro idioma, sigue siendo trabajo de puntadas con hilo invisible, de mucha paciencia y no siempre es consecuencia de un enlace tecnológico, pero éste puede ser la gran puerta de acceso a ese otro encuentro. Haré una exposición de los retos afrontados en este año durante los cursos que impartí en CELEX, pero también de los frutos que cosechamos los alumnos y yo a partir del Email, WhatsApp y Zoom, para hallar solaz en las historias compartidas que, al fin y al cabo, para ello nos sirve el idioma: para narrar.

WHO (World Health Organization) declared COVID-19 a Pandemic on March 11, 2020. Since then, even the most reluctant professors to New Technologies had to train themselves, as they could, in order to contact with students. By the time the Twelfth Colloquy in Foreign Languages (CELEX) at UAM-Azcapotzalco takes place, it would have been already a particular year of quarantine and three quarters of teaching online.
Technology has been the means, but not the end. It has been a blessing to connect through technology with no risk to health, but “human connection” -a characteristic of learning another language, has been a piece of work of invisible stitches, lots of patience, and certainly not the consequence of “connecting with technology”, although it might be “the entrance”. I am going to present the challenges I had to face during the courses I gave at CELEX (Foreign Language Center); but I will also write about my students and I reaping the benefits through Email, Whatsapp and Zoom, to find out solace in sharing stories. At the end, that is the purpose of a language: to narrate.
