La violencia contra las mujeres está muy presente en las manifestaciones literarias de la Antigüedad. Esta violencia, producto de una sociedad androcéntrica, patriarcal y misógina, aparece normalizada, minimizada y ocultada, e incluso se justifica por su carácter humorístico o por constituir el motor del desarrollo de la trama literaria. En los cinco capítulos de los que consta este libro se analizan las distintas formas de violencia de género o sexual presentes en el teatro grecolatino y algunas de sus lecturas contemporáneas a través de metodologías novedosas, que prueban la actualidad de un problema que dista mucho de estar erradicado.

Violence against women is very present in the literary manifestations of antiquity. This violence, a product of an androcentric society, patriarchal and misogynist society, appears normalised, minimised and concealed, and is even justified by its humorous character or by its humorous nature or because it is the driving force of the literary plot. In the five chapters of this book analyse the different forms of gender-based or sexual violence in Greco-Latin theatre, and some of its theatre and some of its contemporary readings, through novel methodologies, which prove the topicality of a problem that is far from being the current relevance of a problem that is far from being eradicated.
