  • Resumen
    • The contribution focuses on the diversity of precipitation in mainlandSpain (including some references to the Balearic and Canary Islands), expressed withdifferent indices and pluviometric variables, such as the interannual coefficient ofvariation, the consecutive disparity index, the daily Concentration Index, the rainfallintensity, the duration of the dry spells, the seasonal rainfall regime, and othercharacteristics. Starting from the average annual rainfall, which, between Cabo de Gata, probably the driest place in continental Europe, and some Galician and Basque places,is multiplied practically by 20, the marked contrasts between the values of the indicesand variables analyzed and their spatial patterns are shown. The high daily concentrationof rainfall in the eastern peninsular fringe or the puzzle of seasonal rainfall patterns aregood examples. Finally, the recent evolution of some of the variables mentioned isanalyzed.
