Resumen de El tecnofeminismo de Judy Wajcman: Alcance teórico y político

Amparo Romero Sánchez

  • As a result of the development in information and communication technologies, the world is experiencing a great transformation, which is referred by some as a new type of society: the information society or the knowledge society. IT is certainly making our lives easier, but more than the strictly technical approach, its relevant aspect lies in its capacity to modify social relationships. Accordingly, Internet has not only become the paradigm of new information and communication technologies, but also the model of social relationships in the context of post modernity. Feminists have not remained at a standstill in the event of this new technological revolution, and new feminist movements that reflect upon the relationships between technological development and genderized social structures have made an appearance as a result of surfing the net. Movements such as cyberfeminism and technofeminism try to give account of how technological development has affected the construction of gender identity, taking special notice on the Internet, being this space considered the paradigm of New Technologies of Information and Communication.
