    En 2022 se celebra el centenario de la primera Conferencia Solvay de Química, que tuvo lugar entre el 21 y el 27 de abril de 1922, en el Instituto Internacional de Química Solvay de Bruselas. Un mes después falleció su impulsor, Ernest Solvay. En este trabajo, se hace eco de las dos efemérides, se resume la biografía de este conocido industrial belga, con especial énfasis en su amplia relación con profesores e instituciones de química, y se refiere a la citada reunión, explicando por qué se celebró más tarde que las primeras de física y lo que supuso.

    2022 marks the centennial of the first Solvay Chemistry Conference, which took place from 21 to 27 April 1922 at the Solvay International Institute of Chemistry in Brussels. Its founder, Ernest Solvay, died a month later. In this work, which highlights the two anniversaries, the biography of this well-known Belgian industrialist is summarized, with special emphasis on his extensive relationship with chemistry educators and institutions, and refers to the aforementioned conference, explaining why it was held later than the first physics ones and what it represented for the advance of science.
