  • Byrne delivers an insightful analysis concluding that: "Just as Cervantes dramatizes legal cases, so judge Peña incorporates creative texts into his legal writings" (85). "Peeping Through Metaphors" is the title of the second part of the book, and it "gathers essays that approach sexuality and eroticism by means of metaphors, whether they refer to animals (mainly felines or equines), or social activities like eating or drinking" (Fernández 7). Carolyn A. Nadeau ends this section with a new approach to the short story 'El celoso extremeño' that explores how "foodstuffs, food practices and people associated with them, appear in the text at those decisive moments of laughter and violence in which gender roles are challenged and ultimately lead to the failed sexual encounter of the two young protagonists" (154). [...]Cruz makes a strong argument to recognize feminist critics (like the honored Martín, some of the contributors and herself) [that] "have greatly expanded our knowledge of early modern women by reassessing their material conditions, overturning long-held preconceptions of women's social arrangements" (280).
