Agurtzane Etxegarai Madina, Elvira Fernández Herrero, Pablo Eguía López, Esther Torres Iglesias, Garikoitz Buigues Beraza

  • This paper presents TwittING project, which aims to use Twitter as an educational tool for engineering students. The background of the project was the positive experience of a lecturer team from the University of the Basque Country UPV/EHU with a Classroom Response System (CRS) based on clickers, which was used for dynamizing lectures and evaluation of seminar sessions. Following the same question- based learning methodology, in the framework of TwittING project clickers were replaced by mobile phones and Twitter turned into an interactive educational platform. TwittING project was aimed for both online (during lectures and seminars), as well as offline (physically out of the classroom) application. Peer-to-peer communication was thereby enhanced and an effective assessment of the learning process of students was possible for lecturers. In addition, learning was moved out of the classroom, becoming ubiquitous. The theoretical framework of the project and the experiences of both students and lecturers are gathered in this paper.
