La Toxicología Genética se ocupa de identificar y estudiar las toxinas que dañan el material genético a concentraciones subletales induciendo la aparición de mutaciones. Dada la alta correlación positiva entre genotoxinas y car cinógenos, los ensayos genotoxicológicos se centran fundamentalmente en la predicción de la actividad carcinogénica de los agentes en estudio. Entre dichos ensayos, bs más ampliamente usados son los ensayos en procariontes, dada su sensibilidad, rapidez, simplicidad y economía de medios. Se describen aquí algunos de los más relevantes.

Genotoxicology deals with the identification and study of toxins that damage genetic material at subletal amounts, resulting in the arise of mutations. Since there is a high positive correlation between genotoxins and carcinogens, genotoxic assays concern primarily with the prediction of the carcinogenic activity of the studied agents. The genotoxic assays more widely use procaryotes, because of their sensivity, speed, simplicity and low costs. ln this paper we describe some of the more relevant.
