No quadro geral da Igreja Romana do século XIX, analisam-se os efeitos que a Revolução Liberal espanhola provocou na sua Igreja, a divisão interna que produziu, a adaptação e as formas de resistência à mudança. A fraqueza do catolicismo liberal espanhol e o crescente clericalismo conduziram ao anticlericalismo, à secularização e ao laicismo manifestados nos períodos revolucionários, que alguns bispos consideraram como a melhor expressão do liberalismo.

Within the framework of the Roman Church in the 19th century, it is discussed the effects that caused the Spanish liberal revolution in its Church, the internal division produced and the adaptation and resistance to change. The weakness of the Spanish liberal Catholicism and the growing clericalism led to an anti-clericalism, secularization during the revolucionary periods, which were considered as the last expression of liberalism by some bishops.

Dans le cadre général de l’Église romaine du XIXe siècle, on analyse les effets de la Révolution libérale espagnole sur son Église, la division interne qu’elle a entraînée, l’adaptation et la résistance au changement. La faiblesse du catholicisme libéral espagnol et le croissant cléricalisme ont conduit à l’anticléricalisme, à la sécularisation et à la laïcité, exprimés dans les périodes révolutionnaires, que certains évêques ont estimé comme la dernière expression du libéralisme.
