Resumen de À la cour et aux frontières: les négociations de paix civiles et ecclésiastiques entre les empires romain et sassanide

Muriel Debié

  • Whereas war is a well-studied topic of the relationships between Romans and Sasanians, this contribution aims at examining peace negotiations between the “two eyes of the world” at the double topographic level of the courts and war fields. Reading Syriac sources throws a different light on the subject compared to the picture that emerges from the Greek and Latin ones. They highlight the importance of ecclesiastical envoys, sent not only by the Roman emperors but also by the Sasanians. Double civil and ecclesiastical negotiations took place that show relationships between the Roman and Iranian churches otherwise invisible.
