Resumen de Introduction générale: l’empire sassanide dans le monde interconnecté de l’Antiquité tardive

Philip Huyse

  • The following paper unfolds in three parts: after a short discussion of the place of the Sasanians within Late Antiquity and the specific difficulties associated with the study of their history, the development of their empire is reviewed at a gallop since its foundation on the ashes of the Arsacid Parthian empire until its integration into the Umayyad Caliphate, with particular attention to the political, administrative and military aspects in keeping with the central theme of the present issue. Finally, the last section briefly touches on the network of economic, artistic, and religious influence of the Sasanians (as well as in other fields), in continuous exchange with its great Roman neighbour, and on its afterlife in Iranian history during the early centuries of Islam
