El éxito editorial de The Line Becomes a River (2018), del autor mexicoamericano y exagente de la Border Patrol Francisco Cantú, está arropado por la crítica y el estatus liberal del mercado literario. Este artículo analiza cuáles son las consideraciones éticas y estéticas que conlleva escribir sobre el espacio politizado de la frontera que separa México y Estados Unidos, territorio liminal marcado por la violencia estructural e histórica que envuelve la experiencia del cruce, siempre partiendo de los cuestionamientos éticos y morales de quien narra desde el privilegio, la jerarquía y la pertenencia a un sistema disciplinario que justifica, permite y reproduce el racismo y la xenofobia.

The publishing success of The Line Becomes a River (2018), by Mexican-American author and former Border Patrol agent Francisco Cantú, is supported by criticism and the liberal status of the literary market. This article analyzes the ethical and aesthetic considerations involved in writing about the politicized space of the border that separates Mexico and the United States, a liminal territory marked by the structural and historical violence that surrounds the experience of crossing, always starting from ethical and morals of the one who narrates from privilege, hierarchy and belonging to a disciplinary system that justifies, allows and reproduces racism and xenophobia.
