Resumen de Densidad de células del endotelio corneal en la población del Perú

  Objetivo: Determinar la densidad endotelial corneal en la población peruana normal, en relación al sexo y edad. Así como el promedio de pérdida endotelial con la edad. Material y métodos: Se estudiaron 212 ojos de 212 sujetos sanos, entre 15-96 años de edad. Se utilizó un microscopio especular de no contacto, Topcon SP-1000. Los resultados se agruparon por sexo y por edad cada 10 años. Se obtuvieron medias y desviaciones estándar. Dos medias aritméticas se compararon con la prueba “t” de Student. Para determinar la disminución endotelial anual, se realizó regresión lineal simple. Resultados: La edad promedio fue 50.6 años (hombres: 51.2 ± 24, mujeres: 49.9 ± 23). El promedio endotelial en hombres fue 2,455.9 ± 355 y en mujeres 2,498.7 ± 328. La mayor densidad endotelial fue entre 15-19 años: 3,017 ± 201 células/mm². La menor densidad endotelial fue en mayores de 70 años: 2,084 ± 228 células /mm². La pérdida endotelial anual fue de 0.45%.

  Conclusión: El promedio endotelial estuvo dentro de lo normal. No hubo diferencia estadística significativa entre hombres y mujeres. Se observó mayor densidad endotelial en grupos de menor edad. A mayor edad, menor densidad endotelial.

  Objectives: Corneal endothelial cell density in normal Peruvian eyes, its age-related changes and differences between genders are studied. Likewise, to determinate the rate of endothelial cells loss with age in Peruvian population. Material and Methods: We study 212 eyes in 212 healthy subjects between 15-96 years old. We used a noncontact specular microscopy Topcon SP-1000. Participants were divided by gender and age-related of 10 years each groups. We calculate the means ± standard deviation. Two arithmetic means were compared with Student´s t-test. To determinate the annual endothelial cells loss we used simple linear regression. Results: The mean age was 50.6 years old (men: 51.2 ± 24, women: 49.9 ± 23). The mean of endothelial cells in men was 2,455.9 ± 355 and in woman 2,498.7 ± 328. The group with the highest number of endothelial cells was 15-19 years old: 3,017 ± 201 cells/ mm². The group with the lowest number of endothelial cells was more than 70 years old: 2,084 ± 228 cells/mm². The rate of cell loss was 0.45% per year. Conclusion: The mean endothelial cells density was normal. There was no statistically significant difference between genders. To more age, lower endothelial cells density
