    Ptolomeo de Alejandría, último de los grandes geógrafos de la Antigüedad, enmarcó en su Geografia el Estrecho de Heracles con una retícula de coordenadas de latitud y longitud. Marciano de Heraclea convirtió en estadios los grados y minutos ptolemaicos y elaboró el recorrido de las costas del Estrecho inserto en su Periplo del Mar Exterior. El objetivo de este trabajo es presentar la imagen del Estrecho transmitida por ambos geógrafos y su contribución al conocimiento de la geografía física y urbana de un espacio singular en la geografía mítica, física y descriptiva de la ecúmene y al esclarecimiento de ciertas dudas puntuales como los límites y dimensiones del Estrecho o la identificación de algunas ciudades y accidentes geográficos.

    Ptolemy ofAlexandria, the last ofthe great geographers of antiquity, framed the Strait ofHeracles with a grid of latitude and longitude coordinates in his Geography. Marcian ofHeraclea converted the Ptolemaic degrees and minutes into stadiums and elaborated the route ofthe coasts ofthe Strait included in his Periplus ofthe Outer Sea. The goal ofthis paper is to present the image ofthe Strait which both geographers transmitted, their contribution to the knowledge ofphysical and urban geography of a singular space in the mythical, physical and descriptive geography and to solve certain specific doubts such as the limits and dimensions ofthe Strait or the identification of some cities and geographical features.
