Participación en los programas de educación maternal en un área de salud rural de Zamora

    Objetivos: determinar la participación de las mujeres en los programas de educación maternal, identificar las causas de la falta de asistencia a dichos programas y conocer los factores asociados y el perfil de las gestantes que sí acuden.

    Sujetos, material y método: estudio descriptivo transversal durante Enero de 2019 y Septiembre de 2020, en tres centros de salud rurales de Zamora, sobre 111 mujeres a las que se les ofertó participar en un programa de educación maternal. Los datos se recogieron mediante un cuestionario, y se analizaron mediante índices de estadística descriptiva.

    Resultados: 57 mujeres participaron en el programa (51,4%) con una continuidad del 100%. La nacionalidad de las participantes fue en su mayoría española (38,6%), con una edad media de 26,3 años y un 63,16% de primíparas, y la de las que no asistieron fue marroquí (35,2%), con una edad media de 27,2 años y un 35,19% de primíparas. Los principales motivos para no participar fueron el cuidado de otros hijos y la falta de trasporte con un 18,52% cada uno, el idioma con un 14,81% y el trabajo con un 12,96%.

    Conclusiones: entre las causas que motivaron la no asistencia destacaron la falta de interés y duración excesiva de las sesiones, para las mujeres españolas;

    y el idioma, el trabajo, la falta de transporte y el cuidado de otros hijos o la falta de tiempo para la población inmigrante. Por lo que se debe mejorar la accesibilidad y adaptar los contenidos a las características socioculturales de las mujeres.

    Objectives: to determine the participation of women in maternal education programs, to identify the causes of the lack of attendance at said programs and to know the associated factors and the profile of the pregnant women who do attend.

    Subjects, material and method: descriptive cross-sectional study during January 2019 and September 2020, in three rural health centers of Zamora, on 111 women who were offered to participate in a maternal education program. The data were collected through a questionnaire at the end of the educational sessions, and were analyzed using descriptive statistics indexes.

    Results: 57 women participated in the program (51.4%) with 100% continuity. The nationality of the participants was mostly Spanish (38.6%), with a mean age of 26.3 years and 63.16% of primiparous women, and those who did not attend was Moroccan (35.2%), with an average age of 27.2 years and 35.19% of primiparous women. The main reasons for not participating were taking care of other children and lack of transportation with 18.52% each, language with 14.81% and work with 12.96%.

    Conclusions: the degree of participation was 51.4%. Among the causes that motivated the non-attendance were the lack of interest and the excessive duration in time and number of sessions for Spanish women; and language, work, lack of transportation and taking care of other children or lack of time for the immigrant population. Therefore, accessibility must be improved and content adapted to the sociocultural characteristics of women. Those who participated were mostly primiparous and with a history of abortions.
