    El artículo es una recensión del autor del libro Crimen Obicere: Retórica forense y correspondencia antidonatista de Agustín (2020), presentado como los elementos esenciales de la retórica que Cicerón había recogido en su obra De inventione marcaron no solo la formación sino también la obra de san Agustín. Se expone la teoría de los status así como los diferentes tipos de status o contitutiones que enuncia el mismo Cicerón. Posteriormente se aplica dicha teoría a las cartas antidonatistas de san Agustín para demostrar cómo el Hiponate usó diversos status en su discusión con los donatistas y cómo el marco retórico es imprescindible para entender mejor la obra de los Padres de la Iglesia y en particular la de san Agustín.

    The article is a review by the author of the book Crimen Obicere: Forensic Rethoric and Augustine's Antidonatist Correspondence (2020), presenting how the essential elements of rhetoric that Cicero had collected in his work De inventione marked not only the formation but also the work of Saint Augustine. The theory of statusand the different types of status or contitutiones enunciated by Cicero himself are presented. This theory is then applied to Augustine's antidonatist letters in order to show how the Bishop of Hippo used different status in his discussion with the Donatists and how the rhetorical framework is essential to better understand the work of the Fathers of the Church and in particular that of St. Augustine.
