The paper aims at analyzing the implementation of Goal 16 within the Italian Regions, focusing in particular on the institutional dimension and on the inclusiveness and openness of decision-making processes. for this purpose, the paper will deepen whether and how the Italian regions have introduced in their Statuti and laws instruments aimed at supporting and promoting the participation of civil society in regional decision-making processes. Regional sustainable development strategies will also be analyzed in order to understand how participation has shaped and will be able to shape public decisions related to the implementation by the regions of the 2030 Agenda. In conclusion, after reviewing the factors that may have contributed to a low index of participatory tools at the regional level, we will discuss the role regions could play in fostering and ensuring participatory and inclusive decision-making
