Las infecciones de transmisión sexual son aquellas que se contagian predominantemente por las relaciones sexuales sin protección.
Aunque es complicado calcular todos los nuevos casos de ITS, ya que algunas son de contagio tan frecuente que es difícil notificar el número real de casos diagnosticados, hay unanimidad en que en los últimos años existe una tendencia al alza en el número de contagios.
La clave para luchar contra esta pandemia es la prevención y la detección precoz de los casos para su tratamiento. El uso sistemático de anticonceptivos de barrera en las relaciones sexuales y la eliminación del estigma que conlleva ser portador de una ITS son vitales para frenar los contagios y recibir una atención adecuada temprana.

Sexually transmitted infections (STIs) are infections that are spread predominantly through unprotected sex.
Although it is difficult to estimate all new cases of STIs, as some are so frequently transmitted that it is difficult to report the actual number of diagnosed cases, there is unanimous agreement that in recent years there has been an upward trend in the number of infections.
The key to fighting this pandemic is prevention and early detection and treatment. The systematic use of barrier contraceptives in sexual relations and the elimination of the stigma attached to being a carrier of an STI are vital to reduce infections and receive appropriate early care.
